For 2013, Brazilian designers Fernando & Humberto Campana have created the Fusion collection. The new collection is born from the extraordinary alliance of two types of material and two forms of expertise, the combination of French Art de Vivre and Brazilian force of nature – a meeting of different cultures and creative territories.From the lan terns to flambeau chandeliers, from hanging lamps sheathed in colored, plaited wicker to the Zénith 24 lights chandelier, revisited and enhanced with bamboo branches and candle-rings, the models the Campana brothers have designed for Baccarat divert the DNA and primary use of the materials, transforming them into truly precious objects through a process of hybridisation. Each creation, whether sheathed in or enhanced by natural fibres, is available as a limited edition, and gives new meaning to the principles of collage, revealing its organic shape by creating contrasts between smooth and textured surfaces. Crystal looks to a new future “on the move”, as an exotic, unconventional light source, at the crossroads of art and design.

In the manner of a parable of perfection and imperfection,Danish designer Louise Campbell has dissipated the sacred aura of crystal and has created the Nervous Zénithchandelier, for 2013. In reworking the famous 48-light Zénith chandelier and, instead of suppressing her excitement and unease, she introduced them as main features of the piece. This gave her the freedom to work instinctively, whilst creating the chandelier hands on with the experts at the Baccarat factory. Assembling loosely according to the classic Zénith working drawings, but using specially designed distorted prisms, and time and time again permitting emotions tooverrule given systems, the result resembles the Zénith as we know it, yet turns it on its head. Campbell’s object was more to play with the infinite possibilities that crystal offers, than to adhere to traditional covenants. The Nervous Zénith is cautious, and features a flickering candle amongst the glittering lights of the electrified chandelier—just in case. The chandelier leans gently to one side, as though reaching for something just outside of its reach. It is thoughtful and understanding, with a myriad of small, deliberate “imperfections”—just like the people admiring it. Simply put, the Nervous Zénith is little more human. Nervous Zenith is shy, yet eccentric, and expressionistic, yet resolutely fantastical.

Philippe Starck believes that thereis no futire without past ,so he has set out to take a fresh look at the mythical Zénith chandelier as a masterpiece crafted by the agility of the human hand and mind .The maginc of the Zénithal with its heighened dreamlike ,visionary quality,is derived from the contrast between the 3D Baccarat chandelier and the marvellously wager-thin 2D lighte paenl .Showcased and magnified by this light panel ,its many facets are set aflame ,the twinkle of the crystal pendants mimicking the warm flicker of chandelight .The Zénith le samedi is both abstract and functional ,work of art and design object ,encircled by a neon Möbius strio created by the Ateliers de Feerick .Like a grafitti artist's tag suspended in space ,the light melds baroque grace with a techn-urban signature of modernity .The Zénith sur la lagune in conjunction with glass artist Aristide Najean ,goes for a consummately hybrid approach .The 24 lights chandelier ,which is decorated with three heads in the effigy of the king of the forest ,seals together of Baccarat crystal and Murano glass .Mathematical equations and poetry ,therory and practice become a one in this masterly ,deeply oneiric piece

Following on from his successful first Candy Light model, which he created for Baccarat in 2011, Jaime Hayon has designed a new collection, available in different sizes. The new pieces feature myriad material and texturing effects, with simplicity and elegance. Available in 2 colours – white and black – the Baby Candy Light, with its ceramic base and “Juvisy” cut crystal shade, is an amusing, romantic miniature lamp with all the luxury of the original version. The new hanging lamps and wall fittings assert their modernday aesthetics and can be adjusted for different settings by swivelling the shade. The modular Candy Light chandelier, which can be hung at different heights, was inspired by the famous 1930s Jet d’eau. The transparent crystal and opaque metal details enhance the lamp’s presence, and transforms the light it produces.

French designer Philippe Nigro has created two collections for Baccarat, Céleste and Clochette, both with the clear intention of revealing the purity of crystal and transforming it. The collections remain true to his definition of perfect light; Light that, ideally, is adapted to the use it is put to, and imposes its elegance with the utmost discretion. The Céleste collection, inspired by the silhouette of the Japanese lanterns, revisits the elongated, bevelled patterns known as “grains de riz”. When lit, each model is bathed in a golden halo, whether it is on the floor, on a stand, hanging from the ceiling or fitted to the wall. The Clochette hanging light, meanwhile, resembles a floating bouquet and refers to the early-20th-century retro-floral lamps. With its small crystal diffuser, this light, used alone or as a bouquet, splits and spreads the light in total harmony beyond its immediate surroundings. Philippe Nigro sculpts and polishes the crystal, bringing out its contrasting qualities—presence and absence, visibility and discretion—and awakening .

French designer Jean-Marc Gady is fascinated by the way the craftsmen at the Crystalworks are able to tame fire and transform sand into poetry. They inspired him to design Lady Crinoline for Baccarat, and thus bring Crinoline, the famous chandelier created in 1895, into the 21st century. Crowned in engraved, arrowed prisms, this emblematic piece gives a new lease of life to Baccarat’s heritage. With two versions that can be arranged in varying formations, the Lady Crinoline can create cascades of different heights and bathe a space in showers of crystal. Like a luminous piece of architecture, the LED version transfigures its 39 prisms into sparkling icicles of crystal. The halogen version is adorned with smaller prisms and showcases the power of its warm, colourful light. With its unique transparency and gleaming facets reflect light like thousands of tiny mirrors, Lady Crinoline transforms light into a surprise that changes with every second that passes,reflecting even the slightest movement around it.
